This page is the full lineage the homepage points to — culture, history, and why the app exists. It does not claim the app teaches Muay Thai or Muay Boran. The gym and your Kru remain primary. MHMTJ is the layer many gyms do not provide between sessions.

The journey

Domenic John Murphy Young has 35 years of Muay Thai experience. He began training in 1991 and has travelled to Thailand dozens of times over those 35 years, training in gyms in New Zealand, Australia, England, the Netherlands, and Thailand for much of his life.

Kru Dom was originally qualified as a trainer at the Muay Thai Institute at Rangsit Stadium in 1999. He retired from competitive Muay Thai after an accident in 2003 — told he would never fully recover — and took several years to return to health. Mindset, determination, Muay Thai training, meditation, breathwork, and wellness practices were pivotal to that recovery. He ran transport businesses while training several hours each morning and assisting as a trainer and training himself almost every weekday.

While most people stop training Muay Thai as they age, Dom kept training. He understands we do not stop training because we get older — we get older because we stop training. Chronological age is not physiological age.

From 2014 to 2026, Dom has spent many extended periods in Thailand — from six months to eighteen months at a time — using each stay as a training and study sabbatical.

Muay Boran

Tradition, teaching, and respect

Kru Dom's outlook on martial arts has adapted over the years. Focused on teaching, training as a lifestyle passion, and staying functional as the years progress, his love, gratitude, and respect for Muay Thai, Thai culture, and especially Thai people led him to immerse himself in the study of Muay Boran. He has had the privilege to study and learn from many masters across many provinces in Thailand.

Much of his Muay Boran training has been at the Kru Muay Thai Association in Prawet, Bangkok — home of the World Muay Boran Federation and World Muay Thai Organisation — under GrandMaster Woody and his team of masters.

Dom has a working knowledge of every facet of Muay Boran from a teaching perspective. Having spent several years learning Thai, he can teach Muay Boran aspects in English and Thai and understands the history of Muay Boran throughout history.

He teaches Mae Mai, Luk Mai, Cherng Muay, Wai Kru, Thai history, the history of the Ramakien, Bpong, Bpat, Bpit, Bpert, and various other aspects. He is always available for teaching Muay Boran and how it adapts to Muay Thai (Muay Thai comes from Muay Boran) and is an excellent technical pad holder. If you are in Thailand, visit the Kru Muay Thai Association if you want to learn aspects many places never teach.

The app does not teach this curriculum. In-person transmission stays with a qualified teacher. MHMTJ journals your practice and reflects between sessions — it does not replace the gym floor.

Why the app exists

Dom created My Holistic Muay Thai Journey because he understood that Muay is not only about fighting — it is a lifestyle that encompasses every aspect. He understood that we become what we think about most of the time.

A gym gives you pads, sparring, and a Kru who sees you move. What many gyms do not give you is the layer between classes: an honest journal of what happened, voice capture when you will not type, affordable coaching feedback on the saved session, strength work that can bend to today's Muay Thai load, and a place for habits, meditation, and breathwork beside the rounds. That additional layer is what MHMTJ is built for — not a substitute for class.

A structured Strength & Conditioning program based on modern sports-science periodisation is pivotally crucial to a nak muay's training lifecycle. On Premium, Ask Coach shapes an S&C session from today's saved Muay Thai log. On Coach+, Start New Block adds periodised 4–6 week programs; with a block active, Ask Coach dose-adjusts that day's planned work from today's Muay Thai load and explains why. Dom spent months building that system himself.

He created the app to give back to the martial art that has been the foundational, defining variable keeping him healthy and strong through every hurdle — helping people align every area of their life. That is why Holistic is in the name: life is about the journey, not the destination; balance in all areas is essential; health is our most valuable asset.

Over 18 months in Thailand — between daily Muay Boran training and teaching — Dom taught himself AI coding and built the voice-agent and S&C load-adaptation systems himself. He is now immersed in structured Agentic Engineering study in Australia before returning to Thailand.

Honest limits

AI Kru is not your Kru. Your Kru is the person in the gym who watches you move, corrects your guard, and knows your body's story. Kru Voice Coach and Ask Coach are affordable, always-available reflection tools — a training journal that talks back between sessions. They do not replace in-person teaching of Muay Thai or Muay Boran.

The Paed Tidt yantra and Sak Yant artwork appear as marks of respect — commissioned art, unmodified. No invented mantras, no decorative Pali–Khom script for show.

MHMTJ does not provide medical advice or personalised nutrition prescriptions. Nutrition features track adherence to your own plan.

The whole athlete

Why holistic?

A Muay Thai practitioner's performance is shaped by everything: sleep quality, nutrition, stress, supplemental S&C work, breathwork, even meditation. Logging only your sparring rounds misses half — probably more — of the picture.

MHMTJ was designed to capture the whole athlete. All 10 training modules mirror the app tabs exactly — because that's where real practitioners spend their time.

Today

Voice-log every session — rounds, corrections, energy, everything.

Wellness

Sleep quality, energy levels, and daily recovery markers.

Stretching

Mobility and flexibility work that compounds over months.

Cardio

Endurance sessions and conditioning load alongside technique.

S&C

Strength work logged alongside your bag and pad sessions.

Meditation

Mental clarity and focus practice — before and after hard training.

Breathwork

Regulate your nervous system — pranayama, box breathing, CO₂ tolerance.

Massage

Soft tissue work, Thai massage, and body maintenance rituals.

Nutrition

Adherence to your own plan — not calorie counting, honest tracking.

Progress

Trends and improvements across all dimensions, visible over time.
